Easy Homemade Baked Crackers
These healthy baked crackers are crispy, flavorful, and made with whole wheat flour, jowar flour, and aromatic Indian spices. They’re a healthier alternative to packaged snacks and pair perfectly with dips, cheese, or a hot cup of tea.
Ingredients
Makes approximately 24 crackers
- ½ cup whole wheat flour
- ¼ cup jowar (sorghum) flour
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp baking soda
- ½ tbsp kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
- ½ tsp red chilli powder
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- ¼ tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- A pinch of hing (asafoetida)
- ½ tsp chaat masala
- 2 tbsp ghee, butter, or oil
- ⅛ cup water (adjust as needed)
- Melted ghee or butter, for brushing
How to Make Baked Crackers
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, jowar flour, baking soda, salt, and all the spices and seeds.
- Add the ghee (or butter/oil) and rub it into the flour mixture.
- Gradually add water and knead into a firm dough.
- Cover the dough with a damp kitchen towel and let it rest for 10–15 minutes.
- Roll the dough thinly between sheets of baking paper.
- Cut into your preferred cracker shapes and prick each cracker with a fork.
- Brush both sides lightly with melted ghee or butter.
- Arrange the crackers on a parchment-lined baking tray and bake for 15–17 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before storing in an airtight container.
